FirstFacts for August:
The National Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) occurs throughout the country, offering an opportunity for students with disabilities to “job shadow” for a day (or part of a day) in their career field of interest with an area employer. Its an opportunity for businesses to build early recruitment strategies and internships for young people with disabilities, to gain loyal employees in a few years.
- In 2006, Disability Mentoring Day is Wednesday October 18th
- DMD was created in 1999 nationally, and IndependenceFirst has been the Metro Milwaukee coordinator.
- Students are from area high schools and colleges/universities
- DMD provides employers with an opportunity to learn about working with people with disabilities in their diversity efforts, while assisting youth with disabilities to pursue employment goals
To receive more information about Disability Mentoring Day, or to be a mentor for only a day or part of a day, please call Jennifer at 414-226-8133 V/Relay or ndmd@independencefirst.org at IndependenceFirst.
