FirstFacts for January:
Many people have the wrong impression about hiring people with disabilities. Here’s one example…
Employment myth: Hiring people with disabilities means providing them with expensive job accommodations.
Fact: According to statistics about people with disabilities and employment, two-thirds of people with disabilities don’t need ANY accommodations at work!*
· Accessible parking
· Adaptations to/rearranging work station
· Restructured jobs or work hours/flex start and end
· Specific office supplies (larger grip pen, color tabs on folders, etc.)
· Modified training material (larger font, etc.)
· Job Coach
In fact, more than half of all accommodations cost less than $500!* There are tax incentives available to employers of individuals with disabilities that can help cover the cost of accommodations, if any are needed.
The numbers of persons with disabilities are growing. Businesses who tap into the power of people with disabilities will find a previously untapped marketforce, workforce, and group that contributes to the diversity of the community.
