First
Facts for June:

I
ndependenceFirst thanks many of you for attending last month’s Assistive Technology Fair and Medical Equipment Recycling Drive at the Wisconsin State Fair Expo Center. We received positive feedback from presenters, resources and attendees. This month, here’s a website that all of you probably should have bookmarked. Have you ever wondered about the best way to provide a job accommodation?  The Job Accommodation Network offers a helpful procedure for providing accommodations for people with disabilities.  This step-by-step job accommodation process involves five easy to follow steps which are as follows:

              Step 1: Define the Situation
              Step 2: Perform Needs Assessment
Step 3: Explore Alternative Placement Options
              Step 4: Redefine the Situation
              Step 5: Monitor the Accommodations

For more information about this procedure and much more, visit the Job Accommodation Network’s website at
http://www.jan.wvu.edu or visit http://www.jan.wvu.edu/media/JAChart.doc

Don’t forget to sign up to be part of Disability Mentoring Day for high school or college students who have disabilities.  This nationwide event will be held in October  Locally, contact Alie at 414-226-8112 or
akriofske@independencefirst.org for more information.

The numbers of persons with disabilities are growing. Businesses who tap into the power of people with disabilities will find a previously untapped marketforce, workforce, and group that contributes to the diversity of the community.
