2012 Winter Schedule Independent Living/ Employment Skills Classes for People with Disabilities Class Cost:  FREE Tuesdays 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Location:   IndependenceFirst  540 South 1st Street, Milwaukee, WI     Tuesday October 16th   Intake/Introduction   Class will participate in an “ice breaker” activity so that participants can get to know the instructor and one another better.   Tuesday October 23rd   Feeling Overwhelmed? Deal with that Stress!   Stress can make you feel bad, physically and emotionally.  Learn about what stress is, how it can affect you, and how to manage it in a healthy way.   Tuesday October 30th   Expectations of Beginning a New Job   Many times people find that getting the job was the easy part.  Now they have to keep the job.  Discussion about the things you always wanted to know about how to keep your job.   Tuesday November 6th   Dollars & Sense. . . Transition Workshop

Transition Workshop: Plan for the Future of Your Youth with Special Needs- GUARDIANSHIP   This hands-on Transition Workshop is for parents and caregivers of youth who will need a legal guardian when they turn 18.   Important issues that will be addressed:   Part 1: -          Why an individual may need a legal guardian (decision making for school, community, health care, etc.) -          Responsibilities of the guardian and how the guardianship law protects an individual’s rights. -          Overview of the guardianship process.   Part 2: -          Hands-on walk through of the paperwork and process required to file for guardianship.   Please note: The court process and legal forms will be explained but participants will not be able to seek answers for their individual situations! Deal with that Stress!   Stress can make you feel bad, physically and emotionally.  Learn about what stress is, how it can affect you, and how to manage it in a healthy way.   Tuesday October 30th   Expectations of Beginning a New Job   Many times people find that getting the job was the easy part.  Now they have to keep the job.  Discussion about the things you always wanted to know about how to keep your job.   Tuesday November 6th   Dollars & Sense. . .
