Skills Training For Independent Living

Training in money, home and time management, communication skills, how to build self-esteem, how to set goals and make good decisions, dealing with conflict and anger, stress management, assertiveness and computer training, (not an inclusive list!)  Training is taught on an individual basis or in a group setting.

Peer Support

Peer support is based on a mentoring concept, where a person with a disability provides information, assistance, support andor serves as a role model for another person with a disability.  Peer Support Groups are also available for adults and kids with disabilities.

Disability Awareness & Sensitivity Training

Training for organizations and businesses interested in learning how to positively interact with individuals with disabilities.  Staff with disabilities speak openly and honestly about what its like to have a disability and live in our community.  Learn about the myths associated with persons with disabilities. Address the prejudice, discrimination and negative attitudes of some people toward individuals with disabilities.  Get ready to have your eyes opened!

Employment Skills

JobFirst

 

Job First (Job Opportunities, Business Fundamentals, Individualized Resources and Skills Training) is an employment initiative to provide residents who have a disability and who reside within the designated Target Area (zip codes 53205, 53206, 53208, 53210 and 53212) with Life Navigational Skills, Computer Skills, Money Management Skills and Employment Skills. Job First will also provide other assistance needed to ultimately connect consumers to all viable employment options.

Job Club

 

Series of trainings to improve the “soft skills” of the job-seeker with a disability - how to positively present yourself to potential employers, how to write resumes, identify job leads, and interviewing techniques.  Mock interviews are conducted and participants learn what questions an employer can ask on an application and during an interview as it relates to disability.

Rent Smart

Series of trainings educating individuals with disabilities who are looking for rental housing by learning how to develop good relationships with landlords and reviewing tenants` legal rights.  Among other things, participants learn about rental applications, leases and security deposits.
