Assistive Technology

Man sitting in a chair playing an electric guitar. There are many adaptive types of equipment that help people with disabilities live, work, communicate, and enjoy life. We can show you what’s available in computers, telephones, and more. We even have our “BAT Cave” with adaptive technology for the bathroom. Independence First does not sell equipment. We offer expertise so you can chose what is best.

The Assistive Technology Program offers equipment demonstration, short term equipment loan of selected devices to assist with decision making, equipment reuse and exchange, assessments of home, work/school, and vehicle access. We partner with long term care programs and the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) to coordinate equipment purchase and equipment training. We can provide information and referral regarding adaptive equipment, home modification, job and school accommodations and funding.
