Details:Join Independence First, the City of Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, and Visit Milwaukee as we celebrate the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the landmark civil rights law that has helped expand access, opportunity, and inclusion for millions of Americans with disabilities. This free community event brings together local leaders, disability advocates, community organizations, and residents to recognize the progress made since the ADA became law while reaffirming our commitment to building a more accessible future.
The celebration begins with a complimentary breakfast and program featuring remarks from Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, Equal Rights Commission Chair and Visit Milwaukee Director of Community Engagement and Inclusion Tony Snell Rodriguez, Milwaukee Fire Chief Aaron Lipski, Milwaukee County Director of Health and Human Services Shakita LaGrant-McClain, and Independence First Director of Fund Development Troy Moldenhauer.
Following the program, guests are invited to enjoy dessert while exploring a community resource fair featuring Independence First, the Milwaukee Fire Department, Milwaukee Public Library, the Aging and Disability Resource Center, the City of Milwaukee, Disability Rights Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Talking Book and Braille Library, and more. Visitors can also experience assistive technology demonstrations, tour Independence First's sensory room, and learn about the accessibility features available throughout our Milwaukee office.
Whether you're a person with a disability, family member, caregiver, advocate, professional, or ally, we invite you to join us as we celebrate the lasting impact of the ADA and the ongoing work to create a more inclusive community for everyone.
