Disability Mentoring Month

October 6th - October 31st, 2025

Are you currently a high school student or between the ages of 14 – 21 years old? Do you have a disability?
Are you interested in job shadowing a local business in the Milwaukee area?

Join Independence First in celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) by participating in Disability Mentoring Month!
Disability Mentoring Month (DMM) is designed to promote career development for high school students and transition-aged youth with disabilities through hands-on career exploration.

  • Learn about local employment and internship opportunities for people with disabilities.
  • Discuss and experience hands-on functions of the job while exploring personal needs related to your disability.
  • Explore career interests and employment goals.
  • Pair up with community-based partners at local work sites for one-on-one career coaching.
  • Learn about inclusive employers in your area!

To sign up or for more information, contact Kristin Stern at (414) 226-8332 V/Relay.

Reasonable Accommodations
Independence First is committed to providing the highest degree of accessibility when offering agency-sponsored events. Please notify Kristin Stern at 414-226-8332 V/Relay or YLS@independencefirst.org with your disability-related accommodation requests by 2 weeks before the group meeting. We will do our best to honor accommodation requests made after this date.

Environmental and Chemical Sensitivities
For the safety and comfort of those with chemical and environmental sensitivities, Independence First requests that when attending agency-sponsored events, please refrain from using any perfumed products such as scented soaps, deodorants, perfumes, colognes and heavily scented fabric softeners. To maintain a smoke-free environment, please also refrain from smoking in paths of travel and doorways.
