Learn & Advocate Lunch Series - Ski Slopes With Handrails

November Featured Discussion: Ski Slopes with Handrails — Wisconsin's Steep Ramp Problem

Join Independence First for our monthly Learn & Advocate Lunch Series, a virtual lunchtime discussion exploring important issues in disability rights, accessibility, independent living, and community inclusion.

This November, we're taking a closer look at a serious accessibility concern affecting Wisconsin homeowners and people with disabilities: dangerously steep residential wheelchair ramps.

A wheelchair ramp is supposed to provide safe, accessible entry to a home, but what happens when a ramp is improperly designed or installed? Poorly constructed ramps can create serious safety hazards, potentially putting wheelchair users and others with mobility disabilities at risk.

Join Cassandra Potter and Dan Zepp from Access Elevator for a discussion about why so many Wisconsin homes have dangerously steep ramps, how consumers can recognize and protect themselves from predatory practices, and what can be done to advocate for stronger accessibility standards.

Whether you use a wheelchair, support someone with mobility needs, or simply care about making Wisconsin homes safer and more accessible, this discussion offers an opportunity to learn about an important issue affecting independent living.
