Join Independence First for Plant Pals, a hands-on summer gardening club where participants will learn how plants grow while exploring the world of gardening in a fun and accessible way. Throughout the series, attendees will visit local greenhouses, work together to create a sensory garden, and build their own mini garden beds or planters to take home, all while gaining practical skills and confidence.

2026 Dates and Times

May 4, 2026 – Introduction/Intake (1pm – 2pm)
May 18, 2026 – Come Learn About Sensory Gardens (1pm – 2pm)
June 1, 2026 – Visit a Local Greenhouse (1pm – 2:30pm)
June 15, 2026 – Get Your Hands Dirty – Build a Sensory Garden at IF! (1pm – 3:30pm)
June 29, 2026 – Visit the Mitchell Domes (1pm – 3pm)
July 13, 2026 – Make Your Own Personal Garden Beds/Planters (1pm – 2:30pm)
July 27, 2026 – Movie/Crafting Day (1pm – 2:30pm)
August 10, 2026 – Plant Trade (1pm – 3:30pm)

 

Plant Pals meets on select Mondays from May through August at Independence First (540 S. First St., Milwaukee), with sessions ranging from 1:00–3:30 p.m. depending on the activity. In addition to gardening projects, participants will enjoy a visit to the Mitchell Domes, a garden-themed movie and crafting day, and a plant trade to wrap up the program.
