Independence First Launches Alternatives in Mobility Program
Independence First Alternatives in Mobility (AIM) program
Independence First’s Alternatives in Mobility (AIM) power wheelchair and complex manual wheelchair repair and refurbishment program offers recycling, repair and refurbishment of select power and complex manual mobility equipment throughout the four county metro Milwaukee area and near Southeastern region of Wisconsin. This program will refurbish any equipment that is salvageable for re-use by adjusting, cleaning, and or consolidating components from otherwise unusable equipment.
Services offered:
Power mobility equipment recycling
Power mobility equipment and parts re-sale and donation to people in need
General repairs of equipment (by appointment only) for specifically common failures like chargers, batteries, joysticks, drive wheels, casters, arm pads, foot plates; and when possible motor gearboxes, actuators, and other more involved components.
When available, refurbished equipment for use by consumers awaiting repairs from their DME provider, or for whom we cannot effectively or safely achieve the repair(s) needed.
Equipment we are accepting:
Power mobility chairs with at least two power seating functions (referred to as group 3)
Lightweight manual chairs of a K5 designation (not basic “hospital” style chairs or attendant operated chairs like tilt in space, strollers, etc.).
We encourage equipment to be dropped off, but pickup can also be arranged in cases where individuals do not have the capacity to drop off, as well as for more remote areas.
All equipment must be screened by our staff before donation.
If you would like to learn more, request a consultation, or wish to donate or purchase equipment or parts, please contact Tim Kiley at (414) 226-8387 or TKiley@independencefirst.org
