Whether it's repairing a wheelchair, providing assistive technology, connecting someone with essential services or advocating for greater accessibility, our work makes a difference in communities across southeastern Wisconsin.

A Small Repair. A Big Difference.

For months, Kevin faced a dangerous problem. A broken bearing caused one of his wheelchair wheels to lock unexpectedly, putting his safety at risk. Although the problem had been diagnosed, the repair remained unscheduled.

That's when Independence First's Alternatives in Mobility (AIM) program stepped in.

In less than 20 minutes, our Assistive Technology Specialist Tim Kiley replaced the faulty bearing and got Kevin moving safely again.

A repair that takes 20 minutes shouldn't require months of waiting.

Kevin's story is just one example of how Independence First helps people with disabilities overcome barriers to independence.
