6/03/20 STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF GEORGE FLOYD

Independence First stands alongside the movement to dismantle centuries of systemic racism and discrimination against anyone. Including the most recent protests of the death of George Floyd.

We need change, it is long overdue.

We have marched many times in peaceful protest to bring awareness to our cause. We are all about fighting and coming alongside our brothers and sisters, this is what we do.

Independence First has and will push for civil rights for all, whether it be people with disabilities or others who have not had an equal voice.

We stand beside our African American consumers and all who work towards diversity and inclusion.

A Letter From Our CEO

To our Independence First family,
The health and safety of our consumers and personal care workers are top priority at this time. We, at Independence First, want you to know how much we value your support and efforts to help keep the COVID-19 virus down as much as possible.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends:

• Wash your hands often, for at least 20 seconds.

• Stay home as much as possible, avoiding crowds and limiting physical contact with others who may be sick.

• Please make sure you have plenty of food and the medication you need.

• Unfortunately, this is a time in which some people try to take advantage of others. Be careful of scams and those who may come to your door misrepresenting themselves.

Please know that the staff at Independence First will continue to monitor the situation and update everyone as soon as we learn new developments.

To help stop the spread of the virus some of the Independence First staff will be working remotely. There will be essential staff on site. We will be staffing our phones. Staff who are working remotely are in constant contact to make sure everything is running smoothly.
Independence First will keep running, working, and caring.

We are essential and you are essential! Personal Care Workers can continue to work during the state’s new Safer at Home rules. Also, please keep in mind that PCW hours are not being cut due to COVID-19.

In this time when we all need to rely on each other to stand strong, we thank you for your trust and appreciate everyone who is helping each other get through these tough times.

If you have any concerns, or questions, please call your RN or Independence First’s main line at (414) 291-7520 V/Relay. Together we will be strong!

Thank you so much,
Marci Boucher, CEO
And The Entire Team at Independence First
