Growing up, books were my best friend. I could go anywhere I wanted while in the comfort of my own home and escape from life. Now that I have children of my own, I am thankful that they also love to read. Bringing new books into our home and reading them is one of the ways that my family spends time together.

One afternoon while shopping in a bookstore for new books, my eyes scanned the shelves and I found “Where’s Addie?” by Donna Luber. I smiled because I know the author's family! I have read this book many times to my own children and at work in group settings, and it is also a great conversation starter at resource fairs. And here it is in a well-known bookstore ready for the hands of a little child.

I was pleased to find 'Where's Addie'
displayed in a well-known book store.

I snapped a picture because I want the world to know what an important book this is. Books sometimes have a message that influences our thoughts. In both adult and children’s books alike, there is a beauty and magic of words—they have the power to transform themselves in ways which are personal to everyone who reads them.

“Where’s Addie?” is a book about a man named Michael and his incredible bond with his service dog, Addie. This story is based on real events that happened in the lives of the author’s Milwaukee-based family. After Addie ran away one day in a thunderstorm, the community came together and offered the family hope. This book is a great example of how service dogs can help people with disabilities live independently. The book was written in 2000 and published in 2015. I am thrilled to have found this book still being sold in stores. Children need this kind of exposure to disability-friendly topics and inclusion. As the reader, you will fall in love with Addie too!

You’ll have to read the book to find out what happened to Addie!
