Long Term Care Advocacy Team busy hosting educational events --RSS Feed

By Julie Alexander, Independent Living Services Lead Coordinator
Last week the IndependenceFirst Long Term Care Advocacy Team hosted our Brown Bag Lunch Educational Event entitled, “Which Program is Right for Me?” Sixty individuals attended the presentation and learned a lot of great information from our presenter Karin Bachman. Karin is the Program Manager for the Disability Resource Center of Milwaukee County. She did a great job of presenting options that people with disabilities have when choosing how they would like their long term care services provided to them in Milwaukee County.

Attendees indicated that they increased their knowledge of eligibility for long term care services as well as how to access the services that they need. Many stated in their comments that this was a wonderful program that should be repeated in the future.
Now the Long Term Care Advocacy Team is gearing up for a program presented by Barbara Beckert from Disability Rights Wisconsin about the American Health Care Act legislation. This legislation will be discussed soon by the U.S. Senate. Barbara will provide information about parts of the legislation that will affect how people with disabilities receive health care in the future.
This presentation will take place on May 25 from 2 – 4 p.m. at the IndependenceFirst main office, 540 S. 1st. Street in Milwaukee. Click here to view the event flyer. All are invited to attend.
It is turning out to be a busy year for our Long Term Care Advocacy Team! Stay tuned for more information in the future.
